SCOL NEWS =============================================== More Exciting News! SCOL's Writers Club on Zoom continues to meet on the third Monday of each month from 7 to 9 pm. The next meetings will be on November 18 and December 16. This Writing Club is for SCOL members and anyone interested in writing to share their short creative works (poetry, essays, short stories, inspirational pieces) with others in a friendly and supportive environment. Only positive suggestions shared. If you are a member, you can suggest exercises for us to do! We are asking for a lifetime membership fee of $25 and a class fee of $5.00. All guests can give messages, as in a Message Circle, under the guidance of Frank.If there is time at the end of each class, there will be a discussion on topics related to Spiritualism and Spirituality. People of all faiths and philosophies are welcome. The next classes will be on Decmber 10 and January 14. They are usually on the first and third Saturdays of the month, but this may not always be the case. Our next Hybrid services will be on November 16 and December 7. If anything changes concerning our in-person services, we will let you know. At this point, we are not requiring you to wear a mask but you may certainly do so. (Health protocols may change due to changing NY state and UUFSB mandates.) The room for our services in the Religious Education wing has two portable air-purifying systems that will be used during the time we are there. We require a minimum of four people to attend (not counting the platform workers and helpers). Please let us know if you can commit to coming, and how often, to our hybrid services. Also, we are looking for more people to serve at our hybrid services. If you have an interest in offering a Spiritual Address, offering a guided meditation, or being a greeter, please let us know in an email. Monday November 25-December 15 Mercury Retrograde 
Mercury retrograde kicks off on Nov. 25 at 9:42 p.m. ET and wraps up on Dec. 15 at 3:56 p.m. ET, meaning there will be just under three weeks of its usual mayhem to deal with. Some Mercury retrogrades last nearly four weeks, so the shorter duration of this backspin is something to be grateful for.
Mercury will spend the full duration of its retrograde in fiery and free-spirited Sagittarius, moonwalking from 22 degrees of the sign back to 6 degrees. According to traditional astrology, Mercury is considered to be “detrimented” in Sagittarius — which means that this meticulous-minded planet doesn’t feel very at home amidst this fire sign’s broad way of thinking. When this fleet-footed planet retrogrades in Sagittarius, you may find that it’s even easier to overlook smaller details in favor of big-picture ideas, and more difficult to slow down enough to thoroughly review things. However, it can be a good time to rethink your personal philosophies and let go of beliefs may have been blindly following despite outgrowing. Mercury isn’t getting into too much trouble during this particular backspin, but the first week of December will be the peak as far as retrograde action goes. A positive connection to wounded-healer comet Chiron could provide a chance to resolve any difficult emotions that happened to resurface, while clashes with abundant Jupiter and restrictive Saturn could bring about some frustrations or oversights. The most important aspect is Dec. 5, when a moonwalking Mercury meets with the sun in a connection known as a Mercury cazimi. This brings clarity during an otherwise confusing retrograde, so take things slow and pay attention to what comes up. Photo by Justin Peterson on Unsplash. ============================================== Friday November 15 Full Beaver Supermoon in Taurus  The Taurus Full Moon holds some wildcard energy and may have us feeling scattered and restless, but the grounding, earthy vibrations from the Taurus bull will be on our side. The Taurus Full Moon and Uranus, the planet of Change and Awakening As hard as change is at times, the best thing we can do is to go with the flow and remember that change always offers us the opportunity to try again and make things better. A lot of this changing energy that we are experiencing under this Full Moon comes from the planet Uranus, which is hovering just one degree away. While Uranus is known as the planet of change, it is also known as the planet of awakening. Uranus can raise our Spirit, helping us to align not with our ego selves, but with our divine selves. Sometimes, this requires us to shed layers, let go of baggage, and be moved to a new vantage point. The Taurus Full Moon and Saturn Direct Saturn, our Master Teacher and Lord of Karma, is also stationing direct under this Full Moon, ending its retrograde for the year. Saturn Retrograde is like cosmic exam time for our soul lessons, but now that its retrograde is over, it’s time to graduate and celebrate! Know whatever challenging lessons you have been moving through since June 2024, will now begin to soften. You will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and perhaps even experience the rewards of all your efforts. They are usually on the first and third Saturdays of the month, but this may not always be the case. Our next Hybrid services will be on November 16 and December 7. If anything changes concerning our in-person services, we will let you know. At this point, we are not requiring you to wear a mask but you may certainly do so. (Health protocols may change due to changing NY state and UUFSB mandates.) The room for our services in the Religious Education wing has two portable air-purifying systems that will be used during the time we are there. We require a minimum of four people to attend (not counting the platform workers and helpers). Please let us know if you can commit to coming, and how often, to our hybrid services.
